1. Moco Museum

Moco Museum in Barcelona

Welcome to The Moco Museum in Barcelona! Located down one of the charming cobblestone streets in the Gothic Quarter, this epic museum is a must-visit that deserves a spot on your bucket list.

At this modern art museum, you’ll discover digital creations, NFTs, and unique works of art not typically found in traditional history museums. Keep an eye out for captivating pieces by renowned artists such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and an entire room dedicated to THE Banksy.

What makes The Moco Museum truly special? Street art off the street, striking and Instagram-worthy colors and digital creations, the ability of the artworks to resonate with people from all walks of life, and the truly one-of-a-kind experience it offers right in the heart of Barcelona.

It’s worth noting that there are only two Moco Museums in the world, making this Barcelona gem even more special.

WHY I LOVED IT:

I’m NOT a museum girl, but Moco is so modern and unique – it really caters to a more “normal” audience than most of the historical museums. History is overwhelming to me, but Moco made me feel like I could think about and understand the art in a more contemporary way.

2. Paella and Tapas Cooking Class

One of the first things I did in Barcelona – in fact, I do this in every country I can – was take a cooking class!

Learn how to make authentic tapas, paella, and sangria with locals. There really is no one better to learn from.

If you love unique experiences and trying new food, this should be at the top of your Barcelona bucket list.

WHY I LOVED IT: This was such an incredible introduction to Spanish cuisine and life in Barcelona. I met some locals, learned some insider tips, and ended up meeting a new friend that also lived here during my class.

3. Visit the Famous Sagrada Familia!

With 3-4 million visitors each year, Sagrada Familia is the most visited place in Barcelona. This UNESCO site and Gaudi creation is loved by locals and visitors alike.

A few tips for visiting Sagrada

  • Purchase tickets ahead of time
  • Dress appropriately (it’s a church)
  • Weekdays are best to avoid some of the crowds
  • It gets crowded, so keep your belt bag on you
  • Audio tours are included in a basic ticket, but you can also opt for a guided tour with tower access.

WHY I LOVED IT: I put off going inside the Sagrada Familia for the first year I lived in Barcelona thinking that the outside was the “grandeur”. I was wrong.

The moment I stepped inside the cathedral, it truly took my breath away and added a whole new element to what I knew of the beauty of the Sagrada Familia.

4. Bunkers del Carmel Hike

Rachel in Barcelona

If you love hiking this one is for you!!!

One of my favorite spots in the city to take friends to is the Bunkers del Carmel Sunset Hike. It’s about 25 minute walk uphill and the views are PHEWW fantastic.

It’s not a difficult hike, but I would suggest wearing good shoes and bringing some water and a snack to enjoy at the top of the hill.

Pro tip: go for sunrise instead of sunset if you want a quieter experience. But, it’s much more popular for sunset.

5. Rooftop Drinks and Tapas

Spring is the ideal season for rooftop bars in Barcelona. It’s not too warm for the beach yet, so you can enjoy a refreshing sangria or cava while taking in the city’s stunning views. Snack on delicious tapas and relax for a perfect day out.

Hotel Colon offers some of the best cathedral views, while Yurbban Trafalgar boasts an Instagram-worthy infinity pool if the day gets a bit too hot for just sipping. Check out my full list of the best rooftop bars in the city here.
